#12 – Tour the palace in Compiègne. Accomplished!
FINALLY!!!! After only 7 months of living here, I toured the palace in Compiègne yesterday!!! It was beautiful, sunny and high-60s, and there were TONS of people in the gardens, but not too too many in the palace itself. I thought the tour was really informational and when we were done, all I wanted to do was run home and read-up on my French history!
I didn’t take many pictures outside, because not much is flowering yet, but I took LOADS of the palace!!
Enjoy!
- On our walk to the palace, there were horse-drawn carriages! I’m not sure why, but it added a nice ambiance.
- Really awesome yellow chair.
- And another!
- This is part of a marble table.
- Napoleon’s bedchamber!
- Ceiling art.
- Napoleon’s library (that’s his desk!)
- Creepy hallway.
- The Empress’s bedchamber
- Painting on the ceiling of the Empress’s room.
- Paintings represent spring and summer.
- And these represent fall and winter.
- The ladies in waiting room! The seating arrangement was decided by pecking order.
- Some of the art on the walls was really impressive!
- The carpet in the empress’s dining room. Really, Marie-Louise?
- Art on the ceiling of the blue room.
- I WANT THIS CLOCK!
- Louis XV would have portraits painted of his preferred pooches. :)
- This entire room was full of tapestries depicting Louis XV in/around the forest/palace of Compiègne.
- The ballroom.
- Napoleon
- A really neat painting of Napoleon going into battle.
- Birds! Painted on doors!
- Napoleon III
- The imperial prince.
- The prince’s mother, Eugenie
- Some of the prince’s clothes, when he was little.
- Napoleon III
- Napoleon III and the imperial prince.
- Bust of… the imperial prince, I think..
- And another bust of the prince, after his death.
- Painting depicting the prince’s death.
- Empress Eugenie
- Passage leading to the gardens!
- View of the palace from the edge of the gardens.
- The palace!
- There was this great wall-hanging – it was like a quilt of France. I couldn’t get a good picture of all of it because it was under glass, but this is the region I live in.
- Imagine if this were your entryway staircase.
- Painting of the palace, in the palace.
- Napoleon’s dining room
- Marble (?) carving in the wall of the dining room.
- Really cool chalice
- The map room
- A game room.
Chez moi!
As promised, here are some photos of my new digs. It’s not much, but it’s cheap and I have everything I need.
But first-
Okay, now that I’ve shared that awesome news, on to my surroundings…
This building is used as administrative offices.
So, this is where I live. Note that the kitchen has 2 full size refridgerators, an oven, a 4-burner stove top, AND a microwave!!! Also, there is a coffee maker, so I am really set here. I can even cook, as soon as I get a bit more comfortable in the supermarkets.
